Nocturne | Etched Copper & Dentalium Beaded Fringe Earrings | Rowan

Etched copper, dark beadwork, and natural Dentalium shell come together in these long statement fringe earrings from the Studio Henbane Nocturne Collection. Blending natural and industrial materials with flashes of iridescent color, each pair explores original motifs influenced by ancient ornament, botanical forms, and primitive forms of expression and communication.

Each earring begins with a copper panel individually cut, shaped, and finished by hand. The original Rowan motif is hand-drawn and etched into the copper, creating subtle variations in line, texture, and surface character unique to each pair.

Individually hand-beaded strands fall from each copper panel in an eclectic mixture of matte black Japanese glass seed beads, iridescent glass, warm copper-toned accents, and salvaged vintage amethyst glass beads. The dark, shifting beadwork evokes night skies and moonlit paths, while natural Dentalium shells finish each strand in luminous contrast.

The irregular surfaces of the etched copper complement the organic shape and natural variation of the Dentalium shells. Oversized ear wires are individually formed by hand from copper wire, completing the earrings with a distinctive circular silhouette and allowing the long fringe to flow freely when worn.

At approximately 7 inches long, these shoulder-duster earrings are dramatic without feeling visually heavy. The combination of etched metal, delicate beadwork, and natural shell creates statement adornment with an earthy, contemporary character and echoes of much older traditions of ornament.

Rowan
Inspired by the pinnate leaves and branching form of the rowan tree, the Rowan motif reduces its botanical structure to a repeating geometric mark. Hand-etched into copper, the design draws on the long history of plant forms translated into ornament, while dark beaded fringe and pale natural Dentalium shells continue the strong vertical lines of the design.
